A Bake Off Blog Challenge!

I am very very happy that The Great British Bake Off is back! I love how popular a television show about people baking is. It is great seeing all the different types of things they bake, their successes and their failures (because we all have them!) as well as learning some great baking tips and getting some baking inspiration! Just what I need now the Olympics are over, time to get baking!

I know from the last series of the Great British Bake Off that after watching the show I always want to make what they have been baking, so this time I thought it would be nice idea to get a bit of a blog challenge going as somewhere to collect everyone’s Great British Bake Off inspired bakes! The idea of the challenge is to bake something inspired by what you have seen the bakers making on the Bake Off. It might be that you want to use one of the themes they used on the show, you might be inspired by a particular idea that a baker was using or you might want to have a go at their technical bake! Whatever it is, as long as it has a Bake Off theme you can enter it into this challenge. I am already excited about all the different types of bakes that we might see.

There are 16 episodes in this series, so after every 4 episodes I will do a round up of the entries that I have received. The first deadline for entries is Friday 7th September. You can take inspiration from any of the 4 shows in that period and I will post a round up of the entries at the weekend.

The deadline for Round Up 2 is Friday 5th October.

To enter the challenge:

  • Add a link to Lottie’s World of Cakes and Bakes to your blog post and mention Lottie’s Bake Off Challenge.
  • Email me at charlottelv@yahoo.com with your entry. The subject line should be Bake Off Challenge. Include your name, blog (if you have one) and a link to your blog post and attach a picture.
  • If you tweet your blog post mention @lotts_louise and I will retweet.
  • You can submit as many entries as you like!
  • Feel free to use the image above on your blog post when you mention the Challenge
  • Open to everyone! Even if you don’t have a blog!

I am looking forward to seeing lots of lovely baking!

It was funny watching this weeks episode and seeing lots of similar things to cakes and bakes I have made in the past, so feel free to add past blog posts to this challenge as long as you add in a link back to my blog and mention the Bake Off Challenge.

Hidden Design Cake: For a Mother’s Day Afternoon Tea I made a lemon drizzle loaf with a pink heart in the middle. A similar idea to the cake hat John made in this week’s episode, although managing to do it in a ring was much cleverer!

Upside Down Cake: I made Clementine upside down cake a few months ago. I used ground almonds in the sponge but the recipe called for polenta which was interesting as Ryan attempted a polenta based cake this week.

And finally Natasha’s Rose Cake reminded me of the Rose Swirl cake I made recently as we used the same icing technique. I like her idea of adding rose flavour to the cake to match the outside decoration, it is such a shame that it didn’t work out this time.

Happy Baking! Get sending your entries!

Lottie xx

Its like you read my mind! I was just thinking yesterday that it would be cool to have a bake off challenge based on GBBO and wondered if I should do a special edition AlphaBakes but now I can just join in the fun – fab idea, thanks for hosting. Love all your bakes especially the lemon drizzle with the heart in the middle!

Oooh ’tis a grand plan! So far I have done the plaited loaf and treacle tart (ready for tonight!), I skipped Rum Babas. Didn’t want those in my life. I shall try and retrospectively link them to the challenge!
